Rachel’s Tips on Scoring

Hello Brickfishers!

I have noticed many questions and comments regarding the scoring of our campaigns. I wanted to clear a few things up for you and hopefully clear up any confusion regarding the way score works.

Here are some questions and comments I have received:

Why isn’t there a place on the site that details how score is calculated?
A lot of people ask us for detailed information on how score is calculated. We only reveal certain information in order to protect our participants against those that may want to violate our terms of use. We want to foster an environment where people can create, promote and watch honestly and fairly. In order to maintain a level playing field, we must keep certain aspects of calculating score private.

Why is my score going up and down?
Score increases and decreases based on the interactions with your entry including votes and viral activity.

We are very passionate about making sure that all campaigns are a level playing field for everyone. We work hard to protect campaign participants against people who violate our member guidelines and terms of use. We know when people are violating the rules and that impacts an entry’s score.

Someone marked a review of my entry as “unhelpful” – will that hurt my score?
When a person marks a review as “helpful” or “unhelpful”, it has zero impact on score. Marking reviewing is a feature that allows people to filter and sort the reviews separate from the campaign.

Why did someone win who had fewer votes?
All campaign winners are determined by what is stated in the rules specific to that campaign.  Official rules can be found on the Campaign Detail page. If the winner is based on score, score takes other factors into consideration beyond votes such as viral activity.

I found someone who is not eligible participating in the campaign, why is that?
Entries that do not meet the eligibility requirements are ineligible to win the contest but may remain part of the campaign.  Rest assured, Brickfish and our sponsors verify the eligibility of all potential winners prior to awarding any prizes. If someone at the top is not eligible as per the rules of the campaign, alternates are selected down the line.

How come I get an auto email when I send you a question?
As soon as someone sends us an email, we like to send an auto email to let that person know that we have received it. We personally read every single email that comes into membersupport and reply to them as quickly as possible.

Do you have any tips or tricks to help me win?
We love to give people tips. In fact, we wrote a blog all about different ways that could help you rise in score and rank called “Rachel’s Tips to Win” (http://www.brickfish.com/TipsToWin). You can also find great tips in our Community Spotlight and Newsletters. If you have any good tips you’d like to share, drop us a note and we might feature you!

Bottom line my friends, we’re listening and want you to have fun creating, promoting and sharing. We know this can be frustrating and trust us, people trying not to play nice frustrates us too but we work really hard to protect the people that play fairly and ensure sure it’s a level playing field for everyone.

And finally remember, to increase your chances, please play fair, remember to read the rules, and use the tools we have provided to you with enthusiasm!

I hope this helps clarify a few things.

Thanks for hanging out!
Rachel
